Awake at Work – Confident in Life

Saturday, September 14, 2019 to Sunday, September 15, 2019
Philadelphia Shambhala Center

Most of us spend a good amount of time working. And, for many of us, our jobs can often feel like an unruly journey: sometimes exhilarating - other times discouraging; at times creatively fulfilling or tragically toxic. Success - failure; hurry up – slow down. For so many of us, modern day livelihood – indeed our lives in general - seem to offer a mix of enthusiasm and chaos that at times can feel distressing – even alarming.

But what makes our jobs seem so difficult? Is it the work that is distressing or is it the mind that we bring to the task? Maybe our livelihood need not be so stressful – maybe we can show up at work naturally open and at ease if we take time to slow down and simply notice.

During this workshop, Michael Carroll, a meditation teacher and former corporate executive, will share how mindfulness-awareness meditation can help us do just that – slow down and notice that our modern workplace offers us countless opportunities for profound spiritual growth. Through lectures, discussion and practice, we will learn how meditation unleashes  natural qualities of the mind - agility, openness, courage, poise, humility, respect, and more - characteristics that allow us to thrive in today’s vibrant workplace.
